It Should Have Been You

I typically don’t like novels where almost all of the characters are unpleasant . . . but “It Should Have Been You” by Andrea Mara hooked me from the start and I just had to keep reading! (The story was like a train wreck where you just can’t look away.) This novel is a psychological thriller with short chapters and multiple points of view. The twists and turns are masterful – lots of secrets, over-reactions and misunderstandings!

Susan O’Donnell is a new mom, just getting over postpartum depression, and really annoyed by the drama/judgmental attitudes on the neighborhood WhatsApp chat group. So Susan types off a message to her sisters about some of those neighbors but mistakenly sends it to the whole WhatsApp group instead. The reaction is immediate and by the next day, there are three murders and Susan has even received a death threat. Can all of these events be related to the message she sent? Everyone seems to have secrets and they are only revealed bit by bit.

“It Should Have Been You” is a really interesting thriller that kept me reading when I really should have been doing some chores, lol. The pacing is fast and I liked the multiple points of view, even though I didn’t like many of the characters. Different pieces of the murder puzzle were revealed through each person’s telling of the story. I thought the ending was terrific too! I think this book will find many fans!!
