None of This is True

“None of This Is True” by Lisa Jewell had me reading ‘just one more chapter’ late into the night with its dark, disturbing plot. The story is interspersed with a Netflix crime documentary format, so facts are revealed bit by bit and different characters are able to give their own point of view on the situation.

The novel is set in England and revolves around two women. Alix Summer is a popular podcaster who lives a good life with her husband, Nathan, and 2 children. Josie Fair is an unhappy seamstress who lives with her much older husband, Walter, and daughter. Another daughter has run away from home. Alix and Josie meet at a restaurant on their 45th birthdays and Josie celebrates that she has found her ‘birthday twin.’ Alix begins recording a podcast about her ‘birthday twin,’ but the more time she spends with Josie, the more uncomfortable she becomes. Is Josie telling the truth? Why did this story become the subject of a Netflix crime documentary?

“None of This Is True” is filled with twists and turns – and yes, murder too. It is a little creepy and some of the characters are really strange, but that is what moves the plot along so well. If you like contemporary thrillers, check this one out! And see whose story you believe at the end!!!
