I don’t usually put James Patterson novels on our book blog – he is so famous that most readers already know about his writing, so he doesn’t need the extra publicity, lol. I really enjoyed “Judge Stone” and decided to make an exception for this novel, which he wrote with Viola Davis.
Judge Mary Davis is a respected, black circuit judge in the small town of Union Springs, Alabama. She runs her court room efficiently and with integrity, but her success is not appreciated by some of the politically affluent ‘higher-ups’ in the state. Suddenly she and her town are faced with a controversial trial that gains national attention. Bria Gaines, the local doctor, is being tried for murder, due to performing an abortion on 13-year-old Nova Jones. The case brings hatred and danger to the small town and to all of the characters involved. There are many moral dilemmas that contribute to the facts in the trial. Will Judge Mary be able to ensure justice for the women involved?
I loved “Judge Stone” and couldn’t wait to discover the end result! The characters of Mary, Bria and Nova were beautifully written. I could definitely see this novel being made into a movie – and I picture Viola Davis in the lead role of Judge Mary, of course! The short chapters and engaging plot made this book a great read!
