Looking for a twisty thriller to read? Check out “Her Last Breath” by Taylor Adams. The setting is a deep, dark, claustrophobic cave and there were several twists along the way that kept my interest. I read this one in 2 days! The story is told from one character’s point of view, but partway through it gives you another character’s POV. What a great tool to use as the complete story unfolds . . . Detective Layla Washington is trying to sort out the truth and reveals that a body has been discovered outside the cave, while rescuers are trying to free a woman trapped deep underground.
Tess and Allie have been best friends for years. Tess is the quiet one who struggles with OCD and is fearful of new adventures. Allie is the outgoing travel influencer who has experienced adventures all over the world. As the book begins, Tess and Allie are going cave diving for the day. They arrive at the cave, appropriately named ‘The Devil’s Staircase,’ and a creepy guy accosts them at the entrance. Things begin to go badly very quickly. I won’t reveal anymore of the plot, as this story is best when you discover all of the details yourself!
“Her Last Breath” described the inside of the cave so vividly that it made me claustrophobic just picturing the route the characters took. The journey through the cave is really terrifying as a ‘fun cave day’ turns into a nightmare for everyone involved! This novel was a really good thriller!
