I was excited to read Mitch Albom’s new novel, “Twice”. It didn’t disappoint, with some great lessons and interesting thoughts to consider. The book is only 320 pages and I read it in two quick afternoons. This novel is probably one of my favorites of all the good novels Albom has written!
Alfie Logan has a gift – he is able to go back in time and relive events that have happened to him. BUT – he can only go back to a specific moment twice. If the second time turns out badly, he is stuck with the result. As the book begins, Alfie has been detained in the Bahamas for cheating a casino out of $2 million. As Detective LaPorte questions Alfie, he is given Alfie’s notebook to find answers. Alfie won’t explain much, but just tells him to read the notebook. We read Alfie’s story along with the Detective and there are some twists along the way. I loved the character of Gianna, and I loved seeing how Alfie used his ‘second chances.’ The ending was bittersweet.
“Twice” is an easy read novel that brings up many deep underlying thoughts. I know I will take pieces of it with me for a while. What things in your life would you want to do over? And what things would change as a result of that choice? (The audiobook is read by Mitch Albom and readers recommend it also.)
