“Forget Me Not” by Stacy Willingham is another great mystery/thriller to cozy up with this Fall or Winter. The story is set in South Carolina, the characters have good depth and the suspense and tension ramp up as the story unfolds. The plot moves fairly quickly, so when it seems slow-paced at first, just give it a chapter or two!
Claire Campbell’s sister disappeared 22 years ago and Claire has felt a void in her life ever since. She quits her job as an investigative journalist in New York and decides to go back home to help out her mother. While there, Claire visits a vineyard, Galloway Farm, where her sister worked while in high school. She signs on as a summer worker and from there, she begins questioning the disappearances of several other past workers at Galloway. Mitchell and Marcia are the owners of the Farm and Liam is the main caretaker of the place. But Galloway Farm seems eerie for some reason . . . Are Mitchell and Marcia really just private reclusive old people? And do they have a connection to Claire’s sister disappearing?
I read “Forget Me Not” in two sittings – loved the uneasy feeling of trouble lurking just under the surface at Galloway Farm. I suspected a couple of the twists, but not all of them! There is much more action in the last half of the novel, just in case the slow-burn of the first section makes you hesitate to go on . . . I was happy that I checked out this mystery/thriller!
