“The Unwedding” by Ally Condie is a ‘locked room’ genre of mystery and I actually read it all in one day! (So many of my choices lately have been very LONG, and it was nice to be able to finish a book that quickly.) This novel was a ‘Reese’s Pick’ and did keep my interest as I tried to guess ‘who did it’!
Ellery is vacationing at an exclusive resort in Big Sur – it was supposed to be a 20th anniversary trip and she did not want to lose her money since her husband divorced her – so she is alone and sad. Ellery’s emotions are all over the place and she is grieving the loss of her marriage and also missing her kids. The first night at the resort, she meets Ravi and Nina and the three begin spending time together. There is also a wedding at the resort and Ellery meets the bride and others in the wedding party. When a person is found dead in the swimming pool and a huge storm hits the area, the adventure begins. Ellery begins piecing together clues and trying to discover who is a murderer. And then, another murder occurs . . . And someone seems to be stealing art from the resort . . . And so many people seem to have secrets . . .
I did enjoy “The Unwedding.” I loved the character of Ellery – she is really the only character that is developed in much detail. Sometimes the plot moves a little slowly, but the twists and turns kept my interest. This was a good novel for a quick read and a satisfying mystery.
