Hollow Bones

Book cover of "Hollow Bones" by Jodi Picoult.

“Hollow Bones” is one of the best novels I’ve read by Jodi Picoult. It is extremely well researched and covers two big topics – the 25th Anniversary of 9/11, as well as Post Partum Depression/Psychosis. Picoult brings back the characters of Jessie and Kate from the book, “My Sister’s Keeper” and they play a large role in this story. “Hollow Bones” feels so real and touches all of the emotions! Important note – do NOT read the Author’s Note at the end before reading this book . . . there are spoilers that are best read about AFTER you finish the book!!

Molly Fitzgerald is the super dedicated Director of Emergency Preparedness in Rhode Island and is married to Jesse, who is a Police Detective and also a polygraph expert. Molly was 2 months old when 9/11 took place, but it has affected her life ever since. She is now 25 and facing many life changes. I don’t want to reveal anymore about the plot or story – it is best to read the book without having any expectations. I love the way Picoult deals with the subjects of loss, forgiveness, mental health and relationships!! The characters are also well developed and all have their flaws – just like in the real world.

I learned more about 9/11 and the New York memorial as I read this wonderful novel. I also learned so much about post-partem depression and psychosis – topics that have been in the news recently. “Hollow Bones” will stick with me for a long time. It really touched my emotions and is so relevant for today! I highly recommend this book!!!
