The First Time I Saw Him

Finally! A mystery that kept me glued to the pages so intently that I finished it in one afternoon! If you haven’t read “The Last Thing He Told Me” by Laura Dave – please read that novel right away. Then read this sequel, “The First Time I Saw Him.” Both novels were picked for Reece’s Book Club and this sequel begins five years after the first book’s ending.

Hannah and her step-daughter, Bailey, have rebuilt their lives in Southern California after the disappearance of Hannah’s husband, Owen. (Owen left in order to keep his family safe from organized crime bosses.) Bailey’s grandfather, Nicholas, has become an important part of their lives, even though he used to be involved with the mob also. To Hannah’s surprise, Owen reappears suddenly and sends her a message to ‘get out of there now.’ Luckily, Hannah has always had a plan for she and Bailey to escape to safety if that was ever necessary. There are twists and turns as Hannah and Bailey run for their lives. So much is revealed about Owen and Nicholas and their past relationship as well.

“The First Time I Saw Him” is a terrific read! The story was fast paced and I really loved the four main characters – Hannah, Bailey, Owen and Nicholas. I truly enjoyed this satisfying book – especially since it resolves the cliffhanger ending of the first novel. Check out both books in this series!
