If you’ve been looking for a fun/easy/ beachy read, look no further than “”The Summer of Broken Rules” by K.L. Walther. This delightful novel took me away to Meredith Fox’s family vacation on Martha’s Vineyard – the characters made me laugh and touched my heart. I found myself smiling so often, as I couldn’t put this beachy romance down and finished it in two days!
After growing up with family vacations on Paqua Farm in Martha’s Vineyard, Meredith’s family has returned after missing a year due to her sister’s untimely death a year before. The aunts, uncles and cousins always gather at Meredith’s grandparents’ home each summer – but this summer there will also be a wedding to celebrate. My favorite part of the plot is the game of ‘Assassin’ that is a tradition for the week and is played with water guns and lots of secret plotting and alliances. Meredith has just been dumped by her former boyfriend, but meets the groom’s step-brother, Wit, at the gathering. Their banter and adventures with the ‘Assassin’ game are really fun and keep the pace moving quickly.
“The Summer of Broken Rules” was a great novel to read after having read several more serious, critically-acclaimed novels. Choose this book if you want a fun, make-you-smile story that still has some touching emotions involved with the plot and characters. I’m so glad I checked this book out!!!
