“She’s Not Sorry” by Mary Kubica was a great read – I finished it in one day . . . just couldn’t put it down without finding out what would happen! This novel is a great thriller with believable characters. The setting is Chicago – which I really enjoyed. I’ve been in many of the places that were scenes in the book. Kubica did a great job of describing the city – she actually lives in the suburbs of Chicago.
Meghan is a single, divorced mom and ICU nurse. Her new patient, Caitlyn is in a coma with traumatic brain injuries, after allegedly jumping from a pedestrian bridge. The more Meghan learns about Caitlyn’s family and friends, the more mysterious her accident seems. What really happened with Caitlyn? Meghan’s daughter, Sienna is a teenager and is moody and secretive. She worries her mom with her dismissive attitude. And in the Prologue of the novel, Sienna is in grave danger! Meghan is also concerned about a killer who is stalking women in her Chicago neighborhood. Is is safe to be walking to and from work as she has always done? To top it all off, Meghan runs into an old high school friend, Natalie, who needs her help with a domestic situation. All of these subplots are woven into a really captivating mystery with lots of twists and turns! I wasn’t sure which characters to trust or whom to hold under suspicion at any given time!
I highly recommend “She’s Not Sorry” to anyone who loves mysteries! (Be aware that the novel covers some dark themes: domestic abuse, suicide and kidnapping.) I figured out a few of the surprise twists from clues in the story, but there were so many moving parts that fit together really well! I think I need to read more of Mary Kubica’s novels!
