First Lie Wins

I was in the mood for a thriller/mystery and “First Lie Wins” by Ashley Elston was the perfect choice! I can’t give too many details or it will spoil the read, but I was captivated from the beginning. There are lots of lies told by the characters – it’s just hard to tell which ones are the real lies . . .

Evie Porter is ‘on a job.’ She has a new boyfriend, Ryan Sumner – but is he really her boyfriend or is he just ‘part of the job’? There is a cat and mouse game going on in the novel and I loved trying to figure out what was going to happen as the plot unfolded through present day events and flashbacks. Evie is a very intelligent young woman and there are many twists and turns as I learned about her present and past life. I was rooting for her, even though she didn’t always seem to be a totally honest person . . .

“First Lie Wins” is Ashley Elston’s adult fiction debut novel. (She has always written Young Adult novels before.) I loved this twisty mystery. It seems like Hulu has picked up the rights to turn this book into a tv-movie/series. I can’t wait to see how it matches up with the novel!
