“Just For the Summer” by Abby Jimenez is a treat to read!! It is a contemporary romance novel with lots of humor in the situations, dialogue and characters. It is also a novel with terrific characters, written with depth and emotion. The characters have flaws and some bad situations to deal with in their lives. I finished “Just For the Summer” in 2 days and was sad when it ended . . . luckily there are previous novels by Jimenez that sound wonderful as well.
Emma and Maddie are best friends and traveling nurses, who take turns choosing where to move for their next assignment. Emma has dated several men, who – immediately after breaking up with Emma – find their soulmate. While browsing online, Emma reads a post by Justin, who – immediately after breaking up with several girlfriends – sees those girls find their soulmates. Coincidence or curse? Emma and Justin decide to meet and decide to explore a relationship. There are many twists and turns, some funny and some very traumatic. The characters are so so likable (except for one very unlikable relative) and their situations added depth to the plot. I can’t recommend this novel highly enough for those who love contemporary romance!
This would be an AWESOME beach or vacation read. It is a standalone novel, but there are previous books that involve stories with some of the background characters. (“Part of Your World” and “Yours Truly” are two Abby Jimenez novels to add to your list if you enjoy this book. And both are available at Watseka Public Library!)
